More and More Schools Taking Part

The Devon Competition Manager Team is proud to report that over the last academic year, there has been a huge increase in schools taking part in the national priority competitions in Devon. The Competition Managers have been collating information on the number of schools, young people and young leaders taking part in the fourteen sports that have prioritised Devon and have shown increases in all of these. The most notable results are as follows:

Swimming: A 300% increase in the number of schools taking part in Aquasplash Festivals for years 3-6 in 2009-10.

Netball: 255 schools taking part in High 5 Netball Competitions in 2009-10, in comparison to 119 during 2008-9.

Athletics: 3425 young people taking part in Sportshall Athletics Competitions across the county in 2009-10. In addition to this, 477 young leaders supported delivery of these events.

Badminton: 298 young people taking part in the Center Parcs National Schools Championships in 2009-10.

The resources developed by the Competition Manager Team have also produced notable results, with 5869 year 2 pupils taking part in the new LEAP into Life Festivals. This equates to approximately 56% of all year 2 pupils across the county, which is impressive considering the resource is only in it’s second year.

As a team, we are proud of these results and would like to thank all partner SSPs and schools for your support in achieving these figures. With more priority sports coming on board this year, we look forward to building on these figures and seeing more young people taking part in high quality inter-school competition.
