Senior Development Manager (West) - Karen Jones

I have been with Active Devon since 2002 and joined as the netball development officer. In 2005 took on the role of area manager with responsibility for line managing our community sports coaching team.

In my current role I am the strategic lead for the West area which includes Plymouth, West Devon and South Hams and I line manage a great team of 3 staff members who work really hard to support to support these areas. I'm the strategic lead for our Sportivate and Youth Engagement programmes to engage with young people. In addition I lead Active Devon's Safeguarding work.

I also lead on our further education work and bring together our College Sport Maker colleagues for regular meetings. I act as the link person for Netball and Bowls and represent Active Devon as a trustee on the board on the Volunteer Organisation for Young People and Children (V.O.Y.C).

Outside of work, I continue to be heavily involved with Netball as a regional and county volunteer and as an official. I am currently chair of Netball South West and umpiring secretary for West Devon Netball, both of which are valuable in helping to understand the needs of volunteers I support through my Active Devon work. To keep fit I'm an active umpire at regional league and local level and also tutor, assess and mentor umpires across the South West. This leaves little time for other activities although I have been known to put a pair of running shoes to help me stay fit enough for my netball.
