Do you want to use your expertise and skills to influence national policy and help change how sport and physical activity is delivered locally? Are you committed to narrowing the inequalities in participation and reducing inactivity? Are you experienced in working collaboratively across a range of diverse partners to achieve a common purpose? If so we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for 2 outstanding individuals to join our new Local Pilots Team in the Local Delivery Directorate and help transform how communities engage with physical activity.

Sport England’s Strategy “Towards an Active Nation” has placed a focus on tackling inactivity particularly through those underrepresented that include low socio-economic groups. It has also given a sharper focus on reaching the inactive and underrepresented through a placed based approach.

This challenge and the escalating pressure on investment locally have required Sport England to change the way we work particularly locally. Where people live, and work plays a big part in the choices they make to be active. We know a more holistic and systematic approach is important if we are to tackle the challenge of stubborn inequalities in participation.
We have created the Local Delivery Directorate to focus on these complex challenges, this will involve:

• Developing and testing a blueprint for population level change in activity in a place, understanding how this can be sustainable and replicated elsewhere using a ‘whole systems‘ approach.
• Maximising our influence on the sport and physical activity sector, influencing how sport and physical activity is commissioned and supplied.
• Create a more needs led approach to investment for key audiences in local places.

The Local Pilots Manager (2 posts) to will lead our work with the Local Delivery Pilots, Core Cities and other priority places. It is expected these posts will cover geographical responsibilities across Greater Manchester and other parts to North West, and Yorkshire. Actual locations can be reviewed or amended based on business need. These posts are suitable for home working.
