Devon Girls Can Ambassador
“All you need is 20 seconds of courage to take the first step.”
What have you learnt about the This Girl Can Campaign? The This Girl Can Campaign is about getting women and girls active and involved with sport. It’s also about celebrating those who are already within sport, achieving their goals and inspiring others to do the same. The campaign allows women to see the wide range of activities and sport they can have a go at but don’t have to be good at!
What is your goal to achieve throughout the campaign? My goal is to educate more woman and girls of any age and ability about sport, help them find their ideal and encourage them to achieve their full potential whilst making is as enjoyable and as much fun as possible.
What is your main motivation for getting active? All of the reasons but mainly because I like to have fun and inspire others.
Tell us a bit about your story… My first experience in a sporting club was when my mum encouraged me to go to my local athletics club that she went when she was a little girl. My local athletics club had a grass track and within 20 seconds of starting to run… I was hooked. Since then, I have competed for Devon in the Cross Country League, learnt to play and coach hockey; and now I am completing a 12 month, 1000 mile challenge for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. I am now coaching at my local athletics club and things have come full circle… all it took was 20 seconds of courage to give it a go.
What or who inspires you? I am inspired by other women and the community we create. Everyone is so supportive of each other and you share the ups and downs of each other’s stories.
