CAN Connecting Actively to Nature

Feeling connected to nature is good for you. Being physically active is very good for you. Being Naturally Active is EVEN better.

The ‘Connecting Actively to Nature (CAN)’ programme in Devon will help people to discover the combined benefits of a more active lifestyle with the psychological benefits that being outdoors in nature brings.

With local partners and organisations, groups and individuals we help to establish new opportunities or develop existing provision, so that more people can choose activity as part of their everyday lifestyle.

Did you know … that the most popular activity for people to be active in nature is walking!

We have many existing and new opportunities for you to see the benefits of getting active in Nature.

There is a much evidence around the health and wellbeing benefits of connecting with nature, and spending time outdoors For example, in Defra’s ‘Evidence Statement on the links between natural environments and human health’ from March 2017 they found Strong evidence linking improved Mental health and wellbeing and the Development and maintenance of a healthy immune system and reduction of inflammatory-based diseases to use of green spaces and exposure to the natural world.

You’ll find the DEFRA report and lots more on Natural Devon’s website on the Naturally Healthy pages.

With the rise of social prescribing referrals being adopted by many GPs, nurses and other primary care professionals to refer people to a range of local, non-clinical services. CAN projects are a key to supporting those with social, emotional or practical needs, and social isolation, improving mental health and physical well-being.

Our activity groups are designed to suit the ability of someone taking their first footsteps into activity and leading a healthier lifestyle. Our groups across the County are very sociable and a chance to meet other people like you in your community.

Are you interested in joining one of our local activities?
