Funding Opportunities and How to Get ‘Funding Ready’

Here you’ll find details on grant funding opportunities and how to get ‘funding ready’.

Grant funding can help groups and organisations to develop their activity and grow opportunities for people to move more. The four sections below detail how we support partners to access funding opportunities.

Get Funding Ready

If you are looking to apply for funding from Active Devon, you will first need to meet our Minimum Operating Standards (MOS). These are a set of standards designed to ensure that the providers we fund offer a safe and inclusive experience for all participants.

Full details of the requirements and support available to help you through the process are detailed in our MOS and What’s Required document.

You can submit your Minimum Operating Standards information at any time. This means that when funding opportunities arise via Active Devon you are in a position to proceed with your application (subject to any updates). Evidencing the MOS, also stands you in good stead to successfully apply for funding from other funders.

Funding via Active Devon

We have a role in distributing national Sport England funding opportunities at a local level. For activity providers, we can work with you to support you through the process. This can include us helping you to develop your project or idea. Plus, ensuring you are ‘funding ready’ through meeting our Minimum Operating Standards, (see further information above).

Other Funding Opportunities

Spotlighted – National Grant Opportunities

Sport England’s Small Grants Programme seeks to develop opportunities for communities to get more people physically active and support new projects through providing National Lottery funding of between £300 and £15,000.

Social connections and community activities are at the heart of creating healthier, happier lives and a flourishing society. That’s why the National Lottery Awards for All England supports amazing community-led projects. They offer funding from £300 to £20,000 and can support your project for up to two years.

Spotlighted – Local Grant Opportunities

The Postcode Local Trust offers flexible funding for organisation in the Southwest. Funded themes include: enabling participation in physical activity, supporting marginalised groups and tackling inequality, improving biodiversity and responding to the climate emergency, and providing support to improve mental health, amongst others.

The funding prioritises organisations that have an income of less than £250k. Grants are for up to £2.5k or £25k, depending on the legal structure. The application window opens three times per year. For 2024, Round 2 opens 27th May 9am – 3rd June 12 noon and Round 3 opens 26th August 9am – 2nd September 12 noon.

The Sports Foundation for the Disabled is offering grants of up to £5,000 for not-for-profit groups across Southwest England and Wales to promote access to sporting opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments.

Organisations must be engaged in or propose to provide sporting activities for people with physical disabilities or visual impairments. Such organisations include: local community sports clubs, community groups, parish/town councils, national governing bodies for sport, charitable groups and youth organisations.
