Confirmation that the Primary PE and Sport Premium will continue for 2019 – 2020

Primary PE and Sport Premium announcement

On the 30th April the association for Physical Education (afPE) received confirmation from the Department for Education (DfE) that the Primary PE and Sport Premium will continue, at the doubled rate of £320 million for 2019-2020.

afPE’s CEO, Sue Wilkinson MBE said:

“afPE is delighted that the DfE has confirmed the future investment for Primary PE and Sport. Whilst we were hopeful that current funding levels would be maintained, it is hugely gratifying to have this confirmed. Head teachers and Governors can now plan for how they will effectively use the grant to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of Physical Education and Sport.” Read more.

Responding to the update, Youth Sport Trust Chief Executive Ali Oliver said:

“It is good news that primary schools know the certainty over their PE and sport premium for the next academic year. This funding brings with it a huge amount of potential to improve children’s formative experiences of PE at primary school but it will be vital that it is spent in the right way. We want to see every primary school teacher professionally supported to develop young people’s physical literacy with the same skill and passion as language literacy and numeracy.” Read more.

Active Devon is funded by Sport England to provide impartial advice, guidance and support to Primary Schools around effective use of the PE Premium.
